CRINOLINE

Hi guys,
I have just learnt a new word today, I even did not know that word exist.

It is Crinoline, that means:
"crinoline /krɪn.əl.ɪn/ is a stiffened or structured petticoat designed to hold out a woman's skirt, popular at various times since the mid-19th century. Originally, crinoline described a stiff fabric made of horsehair ("crin") and cotton or linen which was used to make underskirts and as a dress lining". Wikipedia.

I read this word in a book called "Why Fashion Matters" by Frances Corner. It is interesting because also I did not that kind of clothing, or the stunted foot of chinese girls, were made up to make the woman weak and not able to get a job or doing any duty easily. This was an alluring sign of chastity and male ownership.

I think this is why recently the lycra is on fire.

Spanish court dress of the 17th century.

And I am so curious so I discovered the Pannier as well, wich was worn by people like Marie Antoinette and Maria Theresa of Spain among others.

And that was everything. Take care.
